SXSW2011:Watch Tom McCarthy’s WIN WIN Starring Paul Giamatti

Its been hailed as one of the best movies at last weeks Sundance Film Festival, Tom McCarthy’s WIN WIN has had its first trailer debuted online. The Fox Searchlight movie stars Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan, Jeffrey Tambor, Melanie Lynskey, Bobby Cannavale and Alex Shaffer.

The indie comedy drama tells the story of Mike(Giamatti) who takes a kid called Kyle from a troubled home who is a star at wrestling and he is a coach helping him be sucessful. Things are looking great for all until Kyle’s mum (Melanie Lynskey) comes back on the scene threatening to destablize everything. This is my first time reading about the movie and so far all Ive heard is great things about it, some regarding the movie as The Blindside butter and funnier. The first impressions from the trailer it promotes the movie very well without giving much away.

No word on the British/Irish release date but for American movie fans you can check the movie out from March 18th.

Tom McCarthy, acclaimed writer/ director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT, once again explores the depths and nuances of human relationships in his new film about the allegiances and bonds between unlikely characters. Disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything. McCarthy’s deft touch with balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in WIN WIN.
