A second but now first full UK Trailer for TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY has been released online. I’ll be honest when it comes to spy thrillers in book terms I can’t be bothered with them probably because I can’t seem to create the sense of tension, excitement however when its in movie form now that’s a different story altogether! I just love spy thrillers especially ones based in the Cold War era, a period of history so dark, terrifying, living with the fear of the nuclear bomb could kill you any moment so when the first trailer arrived about 5 weeks ago it was a very exciting affair. like the first trailer the new one is an intriguing gripping tense affair, you get that sense of paranoia and not to trust anyone and Gary Oldman as George Smiley is nothing but sensational. He’s an actor who just gets better as he gets older he is an intimidating character who would shake your hand and with the other hand interrogate you at the same time! If he is in the running for some oscars it will be absolutely shocking.
The movie centres around George Smiley (Oldman) a retired MI6 agent brought out of retirement to uncover the Russian mole within the ranks of MI6 during the Cold War era in the 1970’s. Apart from the fact this movie which is an Big screen adaptation not a remake as some sites are calling it (original was tv drama) from seminal arthouse director Thomas Alfredson the movie boasts a mouth wateringthe wealth of talent in it: Gary Oldman,Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, John Hurt, Benedict Cumberbatch and Toby Jones!
The new trailer does give you a little more insight into the plot enjoy 2 minutes of sheer bliss and why cinephiles like us all love cinema!
Vodpod videos no longer available.Set in the 1970s, TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY finds George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a recently retired MI6 agent, doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus, Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage. Tasked with investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country, Smiley narrows his search to four suspects – all experienced, urbane, successful agents – but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it far from easy to pinpoint the man who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment.
The screenplay is by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor and the film, which was shot in London, Budapest and Istanbul is produced by Working Title’s co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Robyn Slovo. The executive producers are Debra Hayward, Liza Chasin, Douglas Urbanski, Peter Morgan, Olivier Courson, Ron Halpern and John le Carré.
