Mr Controversy Lars Von Trier a man not scared to tell the world what’s on his mind be it via the press or in his films. The Danish filmmaker thrives the response/ reaction he receives from the media/ critics and now he is starting the ball early for his next project.
Screen Daily are reporting Von Trier has started the ball rolling for NYMPHOMANIAC which is due to start next summer according to Von Trier’s business partner Peter Aalbæk Jensen. The project will be ” the erotic life of a woman from the age of zero to the age of 50.” ,a movie which will shot in English with 2 cuts been created. Its obvious Von Trier will attempt to be as ‘pornographic’ as he can possibly get, so 2 versions of the movie will be cut one which will push those boundaries which will be a test for the BBFC when the movie is attempting to get its certificate, the other version will be a ‘softer’ version which itself will still be a 18/R Rating.
Here’s what Jensen also said on the future project :
He (Von Trier) is really keen on doing this thing. I think that this will be a very amusing film also, very erotic but very funny also. I guess we have something which could generate some press attention. How pornographic it will be, that we have to see in terms of what financing dictates.
It’s Believed the movie will be made up of 8 chapters, such as “The Western and Eastern Church” and “The Little Organ School” but how extreme will Von Trier really go here when he mentions erotic life of zero to 50? But will be “all not what is seems” could he enrage people more who could portray this movie as ‘Child Pornography’? Whatever the final outcome the movie will upset people and excite others? Personally this could be the directors go at how commercialised been a child is with bombardment of advertising to get kids to buy these products or ‘encouraging’ young girls to wear clothes that are simply to old for them, making ‘sex items’ for perverts, who knows.?! The movie will be dialogue driven
Its early to say who will be taking up the task as lead role but my senses are tingling at Von Trier regular Charlotte Gainsburg, but if this movie is to show penetrative sex would should do that role? Could Von Trier go for The Idiots route hiring pornstars to do the sex scenes? It’s early days nothing has been decided, Von Trier is only at the stage of dealing with the money men who will decide if this project will get of the ground and its Von Trier and it should.
On the recent tragic events of Norway Lars Von Trier was devastated when Anders Behring Breivik, the white supremacist behind the massacre named Dogville which is simply one of the directors best flicks, it really upset him that such a psycho connects his movie to inspire him, here’s what Von Trier said:
“I feel badly about thinking that ‘Dogville,’ which in my eyes is one of my most successful films, should have been a kind of script for him. It’s horrific. My intention with ‘Dogville’ was totally opposite. Namely, to ask whether we can accept a protagonist who takes revenge on the entire village. And here I take the absolute distance from revenge. It’s a way to nuance the protagonist and our feelings and perhaps even uncover it, so it just is not black and white… And you can ask if I regret making the film. And yes, if it was an inspiration, I’m sorry that I made it. But of course I have educational purposes with my films, even if I hesitate to admit it, and my views are the complete opposite of Breivik and his deeds.”
