If you thought things were hard for Ramon Flowers when Scott Pilgrim was on her mind, she now has something a lot bigger and nastier to deal with. Universal Pictures have released the first official trailer for THE THING Prequel, based on the classic John Carpenter horror which was also called THE THING! Depending on your expectation levels this movie may look like your generic, bog standard monster flick, which will mean you’re disappointed already. From the other perspective this prequel is long overdue and this looks like creepy, edge of the seat stuff that does seem to have lashings of scary moments; which would fit in the 1982 version easily.
This movie was originally set for release in 2010 but delayed for reshoots as well a chance for the designers to clean up any CGI work. Fingers crossed this movie hasn’t been hit by the dreaded ‘delay’ omen which several movies in the past few years have been struck down with, resulting in a poor box office return (The Wolfman anyone?). In an era where the majority of movies are either sequels, prequels, reboots (or comic book movies) does THE THING merit a prequel? I would say yes, simply due to the way the 1982 movie started leaving a big gap as to what happened to The Norwegians; plus why was Kurt Russell chasing a husky?
THE THING stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen and Eric Christian Olsen, Directed by newcomer Matthis van Heijningen Jr and will be released in UK &Ireland from October 14th.
