When your stuck in a jungle taken hostage by some Colombian bandits for a very long time who you going get to rescue you? Brad Pitt according to Deadline . Warner Bros want Mr Pitt to lead a team of crack American operatives in the centre of a tropical jungle to rescue 15 hostages in a covert mission which will be directed by The Fighter director David O.Russell.
Peter Landesman has written a script based on “methodical six-year mission planned by American and Colombian covert operatives to free 15 hostages from the Colombian jungle. The hostages included three Americans and Ingrid Betancourt, once a candidate for President of Colombia.” Landesman also wrote the article The Girls Next Door was the basis for the sex trafficking film Trade. Its said the actual movie wont be based on the time the hostages spent in the jungle but the “ Operacion Jaque, a covert effort involved numerous governments, diplomats and intelligence services and a vast network of spies, military advisers and soldiers plus high-tech surveillance measures.”.
Its said that Warner Bros want to move forward quickly with this project probably due to the number of similar films that are coming out very soon including Kathryn Bigelow’s Navy Seals flick, along with her action thriller Triple Frontier. There’s also Agro starring Ben Affleck along with Paul Greengrass Somali Pirate flick Maersk Alabama with Tom Hanks so are true life action thriller the new craving in Hollywood?
Though this might look an interesting prospect for both men it maybe unlikely both can do it with David O Russell currently assembling a cast aroun Mark Whalberg for The Silver Linings Playbook along with the hundreds of other connected projects as for Pitt he is currently shooting World War Z (which is soon to come to Glasgow which is only a few miles away from The Peoples Movies HQ), so for now I would file this one under gossip.
