Screen Gems have released the teaser trailer for Rod Lurie’s remake of the Sam Peckinpah’s STRAW DOGS. In the 1971 version starred Dustin Hoffman, susan George set in England but now the movie has moved to the deep south of a America with James Marsden and Kate Bosworth in the 2011 version.
I’m a bit unsure if the Louisana Deep South setting with village local replaced by redneck hill billy types but it seems the trailer gives alot of the story away but what the actual movie is doing is another story. Just getting a little bored of everything been a remake or a comicbook movie overall some are good remakes others are just generic this looks just like a straight up thriller though it looks like Screen Gems want to promote this as a ‘horror’ though I do sense Lurie is trying to go down the pyschological dark thriller route of I spit on The Grave and Peckinpah’s version does deserve some element of darkness rather than generic thriller. As for our antagonist Alexander Skarsgaard does look the part as a creepy nutjob, its confusing Scandanavian playing a redneck!
STRAW DOGS will be released in UK & Ireland on 28th September (USA 16th september).Vodpod videos no longer available.
