Last year and to certain extent this year has been an obscure year for idea’s for movies especially on ‘mashup’ movies, the movies that mix 2 genres to make one unexpecting new one. We have Pride & Prejudice and zombies making the onto our cinema screens very next year (or year after) there’s even talk of Sense & sensibility and Sea Monsters 2 literature classics rewritten and now heading to a cinema near you. There is one other bizzare movie which is not of classical literature but of a historical face of American politics Abraham Lincon and a few years ago Seth Grahame-Smith wrote Abe Lincon The Vampire Hunter.
This movie was subject to heavy gossiping who will direct, who will star in it but thankfully this has been sorted and now the filming has started and the first image has now appeared online. The movie stars Benjamin Walker as Abe Lincon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Refus Sewell with the movie been directed Timur Bekmanbetov (wanted, 9). The story tells of Abe Lincon’s Mother & Grandfather been killed by a vampire which results in the president ending slavery which was controlled by vampires, crazy!
Dont get me wrong we do love the idea of taking a classical story and mixing it up with a genre which is the opposite of that genre to create a new movie, but you need to ask is this the end of serious movies? Are fun cheesy no brainer movies the future of film industry? Hopefully not, we need a mixture of movie types, will be interesting to see how this movie goes!
Abe Lincon Vampire Hunter will be out in UK&Ireland in (unglorious) 3D from June 22nd 2012!
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a re-imagining of the 16th President’s life that depicts him as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires — an obsession of his since those bloodsuckers supposedly took the life of his mother. Lincoln eventually learns that the vampires have fled to the southern states of the U.S. and are concocting a plan to conquer and enslave the entire country — this in turn leads to the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, the latter of which the vampires are aligned with.
