It was only 10 days ago when the trailer appeared for the movie and today Artifical Eye, the distributors of the movie in UK&Ireland , have informed us that Lar’s Von Trier’s artistic masterpiece, MELANCHOLIA, will now be released in the cinemas on September 30th , not July 1st as we first thought. The movie is due next month to make it’s world premiere at the 64th Cannes Film Festival, so as per tradition Mr Von Trier will make his yearly pilgrimage to the south of France; of course in his little camper van all the way from Denmark (or wherever he stays) as he scared of flying, I would be too with a mind like his!
In 2009 he raised a few eyebrows, outraging many with his arthouse horror Antichrist, so will Melancholia cause the same rage? Or will we be perfectly surprised with another reaction? As the director announced at the pre-conference for the movie, no more happy endings, all will be revealed next month! Check the new image below that Artifical Eye have released showing Kirsten Dunst looking very pretty in white. Remember, no happy endings.. So that’s why there’s no smiley face here!
Artificial Eye will release Lars von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA on 30 September. A beautiful movie about the end of the world, MELANCHOLIA is written and directed by von Trier and produced by Meta Louise Foldager and Louise Vesth for Zentropa Entertainments27. MELANCHOLIA will receive its world premiere in competition at the Cannes International Film Festival next month.
Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland star together with Alexander Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier and Jesper Christensen. The behind-the-scenes team includes award-winning cinematographer Manuel Alberto Claro DFF (Reconstruction), production designer Jette Lehmann (Flame and Citron), and costume designer Manon Rasmussen (Dancer in the Dark).
Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård) are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of her sister (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law (Kiefer Sutherland). Meanwhile, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth… MELANCHOLIA is a psychological disaster movie from director Lars von Trier.
