Sunday evenings announcement that Michael Shannon to play Superman’s nemesis in Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL raised a few eyebrows sparking debate around the the old t’internet about the choice of actor and villian. One guy who never really flinched about the whole thing was Michael Shannon himself, the oscar nominated actor who is currently starring in Sky Atlantic’s Broadwalk Empire was recently honoured at the Riverrun Film Festival North Carolina, USA and /FILM spotted actual video footage from the festival. On the video the actor talks about the casting, how he got the role as well as Henry Cavill who will play Superman when you watch the video below you can see he comes across a little off the wall but thats a sign of a good actor!

So I go meet him [Zack Snyder] and he’s seriously sitting there and he’s telling me – he’s like ‘You can’t read the script, so I’m just gonna tell you what happens.’ And he spent like a half hour telling me every scene in this movie…and then it’s a month later, it’s like ‘OK, you’re General Zod.’”
He spoke on the casting process, how he got the role, Christopher Reeves, Henry Cavill and more: “This Superman thing, It’s ridiculous!” says Shannon of the casting, “It just came out of nowhere. I’m talking to my agent and she goes, ‘How about Superman?’ ‘What?’ The idea that I would ever be in ‘Superman’. ‘Are you serious?’”
