Darren Aronofsky Is Off THE WOLVERINE

Go out tonight to watch a preview of Limitless (which is actually not bad) and come back to that Darren Aronofsky is no longer directing THE WOLVERINE! Its sad news but the reasons for doing so are very understandable. After the poor X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie of 2009 the level excitment for a second movie was as flat as The Netherlands but when Darren Aronofksy came onboard the excitment level went through the roof! The film director has pulled out accrording to Deadline is down to personal family reasons as he is going through a divorce with actress Rachel Weisz along with a custody battle for their son  and a long shoot in Japan would have kept him away from his son.  There was rumours the filming was to start this month and even if they were true the recent tragic events thats happened in Japan I think we can agree the well being of a country and its rebuilding is more important than a movie no matter how disappointing fans maybe .

The good thing is Fox and Aronofsky arent leaving any bad blood which means the director can still honour his 2 contract with fox so whoever Fox get to replace Aronofsky will the same buzz still be there? One of those directors who seemed to be Aronofsky’s only challenger David Slade wont be doing it anymore as he’s now busy rebooting Daredevil with the possibility that R-Pattz Robert Pattison could in line for the lead role (sounds like another demographic $$$ spinner for the film studio alienate everyone else and target the Twilight fanbase do these studios know there’s more life outside that fanbase ?!), so who could we have in place? any thoughts?

Fox are wanting to move forward ‘agressively’ with the project which means there wont be any more delays, but would this mean the parts of the movie they were to shoot in Japan will now be created set peices or to another part of asia say china? we dont know at this stage. If the movie is to be delayed to a point Japan is on the road to recvoery and the nation rebuilding again a big production movie could be seen as a sign of trust in a proud nation and people will come back, sadly the extent of the tragedy no one knows how long things will take.

Here’s the offical press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 16, 2011)  Darren Aronofsky and Twentieth Century Fox today issued the following statements about the director’s involvement in the movie, “The Wolverine”:

Stated Aronofsky: “As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of ‘The Wolverine’ would keep me out of the country for almost a year.  I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time.  I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again.”

Stated Twentieth Century Fox:  “While we are of course disappointed that Darren can’t do ‘The Wolverine’, we also understand and respect his reasons.  Having done both ‘The Wrestler’ and ‘Black Swan’ with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making ‘The Wolverine’.  We will regroup and move forward aggressively.”
