Breck Eisner is making a name for himself in movie world after his good revision of The Crazies and now he’s going to direct another classic movie John Carpenter’s Escape from New York his reputation seems to be getting bigger and bigger . Coming Soon recently got hold of Eisner and where able to get some info out of him about the remake:
“…how the prison is created is going to be different than in Carpenter’s version. The anxiety of the world and anxiety of our existence post-9/11 is there, especially the anxiety in Manhattan post-9/11. Plot-wise, they’re different, emotionally they’re very similar. That’s why it’ll be interesting to tackle this movie, to have a slightly different take but with the same results which is Manhattan is turned into a walled prison…I’m bringing on another writer this week and we will do a pass on the latest draft by Allan Loeb. We’ll be doing a significant pass on that.”
The movie is only in its infancy but now it as its director talk is who’ll be the main man Snake Plissken who was played by Kurt Russell in the 1981 version, TotalFilm however say Eisner has found his man, an actor his very familar with, Timothy Olyphant. The pair worked on the recent Crazies remake.
“I love working with Timothy Olyphant, and I will be working with him again. He is an amazing actor. A talented guy. And he’s incredibly funny. He needs to do a great comedy, because he is a funny guy. But I will work with him again. I can promise you that.”
Like many directors who work with the same 1 or 2 actor/actress in many of their movies simply down to there trust of each other but most of all they know what each one will be looking for so could this be another rare ocassion of a decent remake on the books? What do you think of Olyphant as Plissken? Do you have your own suggestions? leave your comments belows
