Jonathan Ross has been known for many years to be one of the biggest well known American comic book fans around, if there was anything remotely connected with the fandom on television Ross was the man to present it. When it comes to coverage of the weeks big movie releases in UK he was also the man for the job with the Film 2010 weekly magazine programme on BBC but well before he took over from Barry Norman the previous presenter he was known to be a comedy writer. So to many it was just a matter of time when he put 2+2 together and actually write a comic book/graphic novel and he has in TURF.
The comic Book was written and drawn by Tommy Lee Edwards and has just been recently published by Image Comics and Jonathan Ross recently was interviewed by the Guardian Newspaper where he stated that Kick Ass director Matthew Vaughn is going to bring Turf to the big screen. You say thats a bit far fetched, think again as the movie writer Jane Goldman just happens to be Ross wife and Vaughn is a close friend of the pair,
There will be five further issues, a hardback collection and – if all goes to plan – a Turf movie made by Matthew Vaughn
With Kick Ass just about to be released in USA this coming Friday the movie is going to be a mega blockbuster success worldwide, so having Vaughn as one of your friends well jealousy will prevail and finding the money to do the project will come easy for him.
I’ve never read the comic yet so I cant comment if the comic is any good, if you have let us know as well as your thoughts on the comic in line to be a movie as well, here’s the comics synopsis:
Set in Prohibition-era New York, TURF offers a twist on the hard boiled crime thriller, adds vampires and aliens to the traditional mix of booze, broads and bullets as it chronicles the eruption of a vengeful gang war between booze-smuggling mobsters and the blood thirsty Dragonmir Family. As an ancient prophecy unfolds amidst the maelstrom of violence, the entire city is engulfed by the brutal conflict and the only glimmer of hope is an unlikely alliance between tough guy Eddie Falco and a stranger from another world. – (taken from HeyUguys post)
